In this manner, the patient will not be able to straighten up or the condition will become worse.

When disc herniation is suspected or detected, it should be treated immediately via medical or chiropractic treatment. In medical treatment of spinal disc herniation, treatment would only start after undergoing several techniques of diagnosis such as physical examination, x-rays, MRI, EMG tests and orthopedic tests. The medical treatment involves strong painkillers. They will also require the patient for bed rest, shots, and possibly, surgery.

Disc Herniation Treatment – Chiropractic

After undergoing medical tests and review of all the medical history, the patient will undergo orthopedic tests as part of the chiropractic disc herniation treatment. First, the chiropractor will help relieve the pain by whatever treatment he has in order for the patient to feel comfort. Next, the chiropractor will start the treatment with the use of any of the following:

• Hot compress/cold compress
• Ultrasound
• Electrotherapy to heal the damage and muscle pain
• Stimulation of tissues using cold lasers
• Manipulation of the spines

Chiropractic Disc Herniation Treatments without Drugs

The two vertebrae that surround the herniated disc of the spine are separated by a method called ‘vertebral distraction.’ This type of method for the treatment of disc herniation is done by expert chiropractors. With a motion repeated many times in this process, the herniated disc is slid back to its original position.

In other methods, chiropractors use mechanical decompression equipment that carefully pulls and causes the spine to be straightened. This comes to at least 4 treatments where the patient may feel fewer symptoms after each session until everything in the spine goes back to normal.

You may wonder what caused the herniation. Here are some of the common causes:

• Poor nutrition which leads to poor bone nourishment of the discs

• Poor posture that leads to uneven pressure

• Incorrect lifting and improper bending

• Dehydration

• Tumors near the disc
